In a bold step to strengthen human capacity and build a world-class public service, the Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Tertiary Education, has launched a two-day Executive Leadership Training Programme for civil servants in collaboration with the Rome Business School, Nigeria.
The training, which opened on Tuesday at the Marriot Hotel in Ikeja, is aimed at equipping middle and senior-level officers with the skills to meet the evolving demands of modern governance.
Delivering the keynote address, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, said the initiative reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of a forward-thinking and globally competitive civil service.
“This programme is a bold step toward creating a public service that is efficient, forward-thinking, and globally competitive,” Agoro said. “It will provide our officers with the tools to lead at the highest levels of government, training professionals who are globally informed yet locally effective.”
Agoro urged participants to embrace the training wholeheartedly, network with peers, and apply the lessons learned to deliver tangible results in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, described the training as a strategic investment in Lagos’ future.
“A dynamic and innovative civil service is the engine of progress for Lagos. This initiative shows our commitment to building a workforce that is both globally competitive and locally impactful,” Sule said.
Speaking on the programme’s design, the General Manager of Rome Business School Nigeria, Mr. Olakunle Asunmo, said the training goes beyond theory to deliver practical skills and experiences.
“It is a hands-on opportunity for professionals to sharpen decision-making skills, enhance efficiency, and improve service delivery across the public sector,” Asunmo noted. “Our goal is to help civil servants apply real-world solutions that improve performance and create lasting impact.”
The training brought together middle-level, management, and principal officers of the Lagos civil service and underscores the Sanwo-Olu administration’s drive to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in governance.
