Mövenpick Hotel Ikoyi Lagos, a member of the Accor portfolio, has announced it has been awarded the Green Key Certification for 2025, making it one of Nigeria’s leaders in sustainable hospitality.

The Green Key, a globally recognized eco-label coordinated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), is granted only to establishments that meet exceptional standards in environmental management, energy efficiency, and community engagement.

In a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, Ubongabasi Nseobot, Commercial Lead of Mövenpick Hotel Ikoyi Lagos, said the recognition placed the hotel at the forefront of responsible tourism in Nigeria.

“Green Key certification cements Mövenpick Hotel Ikoyi Lagos’s role as a pioneer in eco-conscious hospitality, shaping a greener future for Nigeria’s travel industry,” Nseobot said. “Sustainability is not just a goal; it is a responsibility we embrace wholeheartedly and are committed to embedding into every guest touchpoint.”

Nseobot explained that the hotel has embedded sustainability into its operations with key initiatives such as eliminating 60 per cent of single-use plastics and recycling them, introducing food waste monitoring systems, optimizing energy use through sustainable lighting and energy-saving practices, and championing water conservation across its facilities.

She added that the certification aligned with Accor’s global “Positive Hospitality” agenda, which ensures that every property contributes meaningfully to sustainability while delivering exceptional guest experiences.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of responsible hospitality, inspiring both our guests and the industry to prioritise sustainable practices that benefit our planet,” Nseobot said.

According to her, Mövenpick Hotel Ikoyi Lagos will continue to work with global and local partners to foster innovation in eco-friendly solutions, offering travelers not just luxury and comfort but also meaningful, responsible experiences.
