Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO) has announced significant progress in its sustainability drive, revealing that 90 per cent of its operational fleet and equipment now run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), resulting in a 25 per cent reduction in operational emissions.
The company also disclosed that it has planted more than 10,000 trees across its host communities as part of ongoing environmental stewardship and climate mitigation efforts.
These were among the highlights shared by Dr. Chris Offokansi, Head of Human Resources and Industrial Relations at SEEPCO, during the 2025 Annual Conference of the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC) held on Thursday in Lagos.
Delivering SEEPCO’s management address, Offokansi said the company’s transition to CNG reflects its broader commitment to Nigeria’s energy transition and global decarbonisation agenda.
“Over 90 per cent of our vehicle and equipment fleet now run on CNG. This bold shift has enabled us to achieve a 25 per cent reduction in emissions from our operations,” he stated.
He explained that SEEPCO has also upgraded its marine assets with stronger structural safeguards to prevent water pollution and spills, while expanding its environmental programmes to include robust waste management, water conservation, and continuous tree-planting initiatives.
“We measure success not only by growth, but by the positive impact we create for people, communities, and the environment,” Offokansi said.
“Our focus remains ensuring that our people thrive, our host communities feel valued, and our operations align with the highest environmental and social standards.”
He further emphasised the company’s belief that true progress must integrate sustainability, human rights, and transparency.
“Progress must go hand in hand with protecting human rights, advancing inclusion, and working transparently with regulators and stakeholders,” he added.
Offokansi commended NAEC for fostering dialogue within Nigeria’s energy sector and reaffirmed SEEPCO’s commitment to partnerships that promote innovation and sustainability.
“We will continue to strengthen collaborations that drive innovation, sustainability, and transparency in the Nigerian energy space,” he assured.
Industry observers describe SEEPCO’s latest disclosures as a clear demonstration of action over rhetoric, positioning the indigenous company among the leading players driving Nigeria’s energy transition journey.
