The Criterion, a network of Muslim professional women, will on Wednesday open the 13th National and 4th International Conference in Lagos to explore ways to break barriers limiting women’s advancement in society and the economy.

The three-day conference, themed “Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Muslim Women Overcoming Economic and Social Challenges,” will gather policymakers, scholars, and business leaders at Orchid Hotel, Lekki, to discuss strategies for empowering Muslim women globally.

Chairman of the National Conference Planning Committee, Hajia Ibironke Siddqah Ogun, said the event, tagged “Eko Akete 2025” , aims to equip participants with mentorship and practical tools for professional and entrepreneurial growth.

“We aim to inspire, equip, and connect Muslim women with the resources, networks, and confidence needed to rise beyond limitations,” Ogun said. “The Criterion has remained consistent in nurturing women of integrity, influence, and impact, this conference reinforces that mission.”

International Amirah of The Criterion and Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Alhaja Medina Akanni, described the gathering as “a timely platform for reflection, reawakening, and re-strategizing to strengthen the role of Muslim women in nation-building and global development.”

“At a time when economic pressure, social stereotypes, and workplace limitations continue to restrict women’s potential, this conference serves as a beacon of hope and a rallying point for women determined to break barriers while upholding Islamic values,” she added.

The conference will feature keynote sessions by female leaders and scholars, panel discussions across multiple sectors, and masterclasses on leadership, business scaling, technology, and work-life balance. It will also include exhibitions, networking sessions, and spiritual reflections.

Founded as a platform for Muslim women committed to personal growth, professional excellence, and Islamic ethics, The Criterion (Al-Furqan) promotes education, advocacy, and leadership development through its branches across Nigeria and an expanding international network.
