Nigeria’s 8 Division and Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West) on Thursday graduated 60 soldiers from a nine-week Basic Battle Course aimed at strengthening combat operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
The training, described as rigorous and designed to instil a “warrior ethos,” is expected to enhance the division’s operational capacity in the country’s troubled north-west region.
Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 JTF, said the improved quality of training was already yielding results on the field.
“I am happy to see the significant improvements in infrastructure and training. The monthly report shows remarkable progress,” Ajose said at the graduation ceremony. “Apply your new skills and act as mentors to your colleagues. Share your knowledge, especially in weapon and live-arms drills, and let your discipline be an example to others.”
The Acting Division Training Officer, Lieutenant Colonel David Ezebuche, said the course was designed not only to teach tactics but to build mental resilience and cohesion.
“The training was meant to forge a mindset that instils the ‘warrior ethos’, personal courage, self-discipline, confidence and an unbreakable bond of team spirit,” he said.
During the event, the soldiers demonstrated combat drills before senior officers and guests. Top performers were also recognised, with Lance Corporal Abubakar Rabiu emerging best graduating student, followed by Sapper Popoola Ayomide and Private Edore Ogbenefejiro.
The ceremony ended with the presentation of certificates and group photographs, according to the division’s public relations office.
