Gender gap widens across leadership, senior roles and STEM despite women making up 41.2% of global workforce

Women earned 83 cents for every dollar earned by men globally in 2025, while their representation declined across leadership, senior roles, politics and science and technology, according to a report by Orodata Science.
The Workplace Gender Gap report, obtained from Orodata Science’s official X account on Friday, showed that women accounted for 41.2% of the global workforce, the highest share among the indicators measured.
But women’s representation fell to 36.2% in leadership hiring and 30.8% in senior roles, the report showed.
Women accounted for 31% of parliamentary representation globally, while their share of the STEM workforce was 29.5%, the lowest among the workforce and representation indicators.
The report put the uncontrolled gender pay gap at 0.83, meaning women’s median earnings were 83% of men’s across the broader workforce.
It said the uncontrolled measure compared the median earnings of men and women across sectors and industries, regardless of their location or qualifications.
A controlled gender pay gap, by contrast, compares the median salaries of men and women in similar jobs with similar qualifications, the report said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) also reported on the findings.
Orodata Science said pay and representation were interconnected aspects of the global gender gap, with women remaining underrepresented in several areas of employment and leadership.
The report described the figures as a snapshot of women’s participation in the global workforce and the disparities that persisted in leadership, political representation and STEM.
