In a tragic turn of events, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, a renowned figure in Nigeria’s Nollywood industry, has passed away at the age of 62.

According to sources close to the family, Mr Ibu breathed his last on Saturday afternoon after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital, Lekki, following a relapse a few days ago.

The veteran actor succumbed to cardiac arrest, a complication that arose after his recent health setback. Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, also confirmed the demise of the beloved entertainer.

Last year, Mr Ibu underwent a surgical procedure to amputate one of his legs, a decision made in his quest for better health, with fervent appeals for support and prayers from his fans.

Fondly remembered for his comedic genius, Mr Ibu’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of fans and colleagues alike. He graced the screens with unforgettable performances in iconic movies such as “Issakaba” and “A Fool at 40,” earning numerous accolades and nominations throughout his illustrious career.

The news of Mr Ibu’s demise comes in the wake of another loss in the Nollywood community, as Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, known as Sisi Quadri, passed away on Friday and was laid to rest the following day in his hometown of Iwo, Osun State.

As tributes pour in from all corners, the legacy of Mr Ibu, with his infectious humor and timeless contributions to Nigerian cinema, will continue to resonate for generations to come.
