NDLEA Foils Drug Trafficking Attempts at Lagos Airport, Tincan Port, Arrests Suspects, Seizes Contraband

1 Mins read

In a series of successful operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has thwarted multiple drug trafficking attempts, resulting in the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of significant quantities of illicit substances.

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, NDLEA operatives apprehended Freeman Charles Ogbonna, a passenger bound for Delhi, India. Ogbonna was intercepted with 80 wraps of cocaine in his possession, which he had ingested in an attempt to smuggle the drugs. Despite facing health risks from ingesting the narcotics, Ogbonna confessed to being coerced into drug trafficking and revealed details of his recruitment by a relative.

Similarly, at the Lagos airport, another drug mule, Imran Taofeek Olalekan, was apprehended with concealed drugs in his luggage and backpack. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Olalekan had been promised a substantial sum for delivering the contraband to Oman. Additionally, charms believed to be used for protection against detection were discovered on the suspects and their intermediary.

Meanwhile, at the Tincan seaport in Lagos, NDLEA operatives, in collaboration with customs officials, intercepted a large shipment of Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis, concealed within various items in a shipping container originating from Canada. The seizure, totaling over a ton of the illicit substance, underscores the agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking through various channels.

In separate operations across the country, NDLEA operatives arrested additional suspects and seized more narcotics, including cannabis and cocaine. These efforts were complemented by the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaigns, aimed at raising awareness and combating drug abuse in communities nationwide.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, commended the agency’s personnel for their dedication and urged them to remain vigilant in their fight against drug cartels. He emphasized the importance of both enforcement actions and community engagement initiatives in tackling the scourge of drug trafficking and abuse.
