Multiple Vehicle Collision at Ketu Inward Ojota

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded to a multiple vehicle collision at Ketu inward Ojota following distress calls received via the State’s Toll-Free Emergency number 112.

In a statement signed by Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, the incident occurred on June 14, 2024. LASEMA’s Response Team from the Command and Control Centre (C3) in Alausa arrived at the scene at 11:40 AM.

The collision involved three vehicles under the Ojota interchange bridge: a BRT bus (registration number EXY-167XY), an articulated truck with a 40ft container (registration number unknown), and an 18-seater commercial bus (registration number JJJ-439YG).

Preliminary investigations revealed that the articulated truck, heading toward Ketu, lost control, skidded off its lane, and collided with the BRT bus traveling toward Ojota. The BRT bus then veered into the service lane and collided with the yellow commercial bus.

Damage Assessment:

  • The BRT bus sustained significant damage to its front and rear ends.
  • The tractor head of the articulated truck was also damaged.

Injuries and Fatalities:

  • 15 people were injured.
  • No critical injuries or fatalities were reported.

Action Taken:

  • Injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Four victims received immediate care from LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Team and LASAMBUS at the scene.

Road Traffic Control:

  • LASEMA’s Response Team, in collaboration with LASTMA officials, managed traffic by diverting vehicles into the BRT lane to safely clear the road.

Operation Status:

  • After ensuring all safety precautions, the articulated truck was towed to the LASTMA yard in Oshodi.
  • The BRT bus was towed to the BRT yard in Ojota.
  • The yellow commercial bus was driven away by its owner.

The road has been cleared for vehicular activities.
