Ogun Assembly Summons Owoeye Family Over Land Grabbing Allegations

Ogun State House of Assembly has invited  Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye, Ademola Owoeye, Garba Owoeye, Sina Oladunjoye and Taoheed Bayo, Secretary Lasabi Family in connection with an alleged case of forcible occupation of landed properties of some communities within twelve (12) Community Development Associations (CDAs) at Obada-Oko, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the State.

The invitation was announced by the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Damilola Soneye during a joint committee meeting of the House Committees on Lands and Housing as well as Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions, shortly after the meeting attended by the petitioners led by Surveyor Bode Adeaga and Barr. Hafiz Ogabi, the solicitor to Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye, held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Hon. Soneye in company of other ten lawmakers, stated that the invitees were expected to appear before the lawmakers on Thursday, 11th July, 2024, by 12 noon failure to which the House would not hesitate to declare them wanted and ask the security operatives to take further appropriate steps in line with the rule of law.

Earlier while addressing a group of protesters from Obada-Oko in Ewekoro, who visited Assembly, the Speaker noted that it had became imperative for the State Government to rise up to the task of checkmating the nefarious activities of land grabbers across the State, explaining that other crimes were being committed under the guise of enforcement of court orders on landed properties. 

Elemide, who warned security agencies to desist from providing illicit cover for land grabbers who hide under the guise of being land and estate developers, implored heads of security formations in the State to redouble their efforts in curbing the menace of land grabbing which had been causing unwarranted tension in communities in the State. 

Representative from the communities including  the Baale Opelifa in Obada Oko, Chief Awopeju Saheed alleged that residents of the affected communities, had been experiencing cases of attacks and threats from one Mutairu Owoeye and his group on their landed property.
