The rehabilitation of the alternative road leading to the campus of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, may soon begin following a directive from Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to the Ministry of Infrastructure.

During an unscheduled visit to the university on Saturday to assess some of the challenges faced by students, the Governor ordered the repair of the road.

The university community has been using the alternative road leading to the second gate of the school after the main gate was shut due to frequent fatal accidents.

Prof. Olugbenga Ige, the Vice Chancellor, conducted the Governor around the main gate and the alternative route, informing him that previous efforts to rehabilitate the alternative road had failed, prompting the management to open more routes for easier commuting for staff and students.

After the tour, Governor Aiyedatiwa stated that his administration would develop plans to improve the infrastructure and security of the university. “There have been a series of accidents near the university due to the road’s topography, where vehicles, particularly trucks and lorries, lose control and run into the school gate area, resulting in tragic losses of lives,” he said.

“We are now working on creating alternative routes for heavy vehicles, which will be included in our budget. Our goal is to enhance the safety and quality of life for the university community, which comprises over 20,000 students. We are committed to providing the necessary infrastructure and amenities to support them,” the Governor added
