Governor Mutfwang Imposes 24-Hour Curfew in Jos North LGA to Enhance Security

In a decisive effort to enhance public safety and order, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has declared a 24-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area, effective from 12 midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Governor Mutfwang, after consulting with state security agencies, imposed the curfew following incidents where “unscrupulous individuals exploited the nationwide protest to unleash terror on innocent citizens.” He described how “criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items.”

The governor stressed the curfew’s necessity, urging residents to comply fully to ensure everyone’s safety. He directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly and warned those contemplating further violence to desist or “face the full wrath of the law.”

Governor Mutfwang also praised the citizens, especially the clergy and imams, for their support and cooperation during the nationwide protest. “The peaceful conduct of our people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is commendable. I urge everyone to continue to uphold this culture of peace as we work together to build a united and progressive Plateau,” he stated.
