LASBCA To Seal Construction Sites Without Professional Supervision

1 Mins read

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) announced today that it will begin sealing construction sites that are not supervised by relevant professionals in the built environment.

The General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, stated this directive while setting up an Adhoc Task Force to enforce the new regulations at the agency’s office in Ikeja. Oki expressed concern over the “non-involvement of relevant professionals in building constructions in the State” and emphasized the necessity for property owners and developers to ensure that all relevant professionals such as Structural/Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers, as well as builders and architects, are fully engaged in their building projects.

“LASBCA will be visiting building sites and any site that flouts the directive to engage building professionals who specialise in the design, construction, maintenance, and management in their building projects will have such site sealed and possibly removed,” Oki declared.

He highlighted that this measure is essential “to safeguard the building construction industry and to ensure that buildings being constructed in the state are done only by professionals who can vouch for their safety and fitness for habilitation.”

Oki advised developers and property owners to engage only professionals with current practicing licenses and a sworn affidavit of attestation for supervising such buildings. He also stressed the importance of complying with Building Codes and Regulations to prevent building collapses and avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
