Lagos State Expands “Alafia Eko Medical Outreach” to Boost Healthcare in District III Communities

The Lagos State Health District III has resumed the second round of the “Alafia Eko Medical Outreach,” extending the initiative to underserved communities in Ikoyi-Obalende, Eredo LCDA, Lekki LCDA, and Iru-Victoria Island LCDA. Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, Permanent Secretary of the district, praised the initiative, emphasizing its role in addressing the immediate health needs of residents and promoting proactive healthcare.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Adeleke highlighted the importance of expanding the outreach, stating, “The extension of the Alafia Eko Medical Outreach to more communities reflects our commitment to ensuring that healthcare services reach every corner of Lagos State.”

She also noted that the initiative is aligned with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritizes inclusive healthcare policies. “This outreach is a testament to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to the well-being of all Lagos residents. We encourage everyone to take full advantage of the free healthcare services provided,” she added.

Residents of the participating communities expressed their appreciation for the program, with many describing it as a significant advancement in public health for Lagos State. The outreach offers a range of services, including blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, HIV counseling and testing, and eye exams with free eyeglasses.

Dr. Adeleke extended her gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for sponsoring the initiative and to the health officials coordinating the outreach. The event was attended by key figures in the state’s health sector, including Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, and Dr. Segun Ogboye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health. 

Residents affirmed their optimism that with continued efforts like this, Lagos State is well on its way to achieving greater milestones in healthcare delivery.
