The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mohamed Buba Marwa, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Borno State following the recent flood disaster that displaced thousands of residents and caused significant property damage.

In a message to Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Marwa, a former Military Governor of old Borno State, expressed deep empathy for the victims of the disaster, the Shehu of Borno, His Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanem, and the residents affected by the calamity.

“I would like to assure Governor Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, the affected communities, and indeed the good people of Borno State that they are not alone at this difficult time,” Marwa said. “Our prayers and sympathies are with them as we continue to hope the floodwaters will recede quickly, allowing people to return to their daily lives and activities.”

Marwa also commended federal and state emergency agencies, NGOs, and individuals who have been providing relief, support, and rescue operations in the flood-hit communities.

The flood, which submerged 70 percent of Maiduguri, was triggered by the overflow of the Alau dam following days of torrential rainfall. Several major areas of the state capital, including the palace of the Shehu of Borno, the state secretariat, and key public infrastructure like the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, were badly affected.
