The Engagement4Exploration Media Project, under WITNESS’s Fortifying Community Truth initiative, has unveiled a new opportunity for female mass communication students and recent graduates aimed at combating the rising threat of misinformation.

The program will kick off with a two-day intensive workshop on fact-checking and digital verification in Lagos, Nigeria, later in October. Participants will then engage in a three-month mentorship program, where they will produce fact-check reports under the guidance of seasoned professionals. The workshop will be led by Elizabeth Osayande, freelance journalist with Vanguard Media Limited and founder of the Female Freelancers Network.

“This project aims to develop ethical fact-checkers, foster a new generation of responsible journalists, and create valuable networking and employment opportunities for young women,” Osayande said.

Beyond training, participants will gain practical experience through placements at media outlets and higher institutions. Interested candidates are required to have access to a laptop and are encouraged to apply before the end of September. Successful applicants will be notified in early October.
