A potential disaster was narrowly avoided on Friday October 18 on Cele bridge inward Ijesha on Apapa – Oshodi expressway involving a truck carrying a 40-foot container, a Mazda car with registration number KSF-830JQ, and a tricycle with registration number EKY-43QG. According to officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the truck reportedly rolled backward while ascending the bridge and partially fell onto the car and tricycle behind it.

Fortunately, no lives were lost, but one adult male sustained injuries in the incident.

Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, who provided the situation report, said, “Our response team, along with LASTMA and the Nigeria Police, are at the scene, ensuring the safety of motorists and directing oncoming vehicles away from the affected area.”

Efforts to recover the truck from the bridge are ongoing, with a heavy-duty crane already dispatched to the site.

“Operation is still in progress, and we’re closely monitoring the situation to prevent further hazards,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu added.

Updates on the recovery efforts and traffic flow will follow as the operation continues.
