A wave of heavy rains on October 25 caused significant flooding across parts of Lagos, leading to a tragic incident in Ikotun, where a mother of three, Mrs. Grace, fondly known as “Mummy Angel,” was swept away by powerful floodwaters. Mrs. Grace, who lived near Kings Petroleum on Liasu Road, had returned from church and was disposing of household waste outside when the accident occurred.

“She had just come back from church when she went outside to dispose of her waste in the flooded area,” recounted Mr. Kunle Olajide, Secretary of Unity Resident Community Development on Ahmed Ogere Street. “As she leaned over, she slipped, and the current was too strong, pulling her away before she could even call for help.”

Her body was later found washed up on Ahmed Ogere Street along Liasu Road. Authorities, including the Ministry of Health’s State Health Maintenance Unit and local police, arrived early on Saturday morning to recover her remains. They transported her body to Yaba Cemetery for burial after her family had identified her.
