Preparations for the January 18th local government elections in Ondo State gathered momentum on Friday as Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa met with All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates at the Cocoa Conference Hall, Governor’s Office, Akure.

Addressing chairmanship, vice-chairmanship, and councillorship candidates from the state’s 18 local government areas, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the need to consolidate the party’s recent electoral successes.

“We have set a strong foundation as a party, and it is now up to us to build on it,” the governor stated. “This election is not just about winning but about proving that our party remains the leading voice of the people. I assure you of my unwavering support, but I urge you to avoid overconfidence. Let us remain focused and strategic in our approach.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa also called on candidates to prioritize dedication and competence in their campaigns, urging them to connect with the grassroots and deliver on promises if elected.

“Show commitment to our party and to the people. Our citizens are watching. They want leaders who will not only represent them well but also deliver on their promises,” he added.

The meeting began with a minute of silence in honor of the late Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi, whose contributions to the state were described as exemplary.

In his opening remarks, APC State Chairman Wngr. Ade Adetimehin congratulated the candidates and reminded them of the responsibilities ahead.

“This is a defining moment for all of you. You carry the trust and hopes of the party and the people. Do not disappoint us. Be good ambassadors of the APC, and above all, do not betray the trust reposed in you,” Adetimehin charged.

Speaking on behalf of the candidates, Gbenga Fasua of Akure South expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve. “We are deeply thankful for the trust the governor and the party leadership have placed in us. We will work tirelessly to uphold the values of the APC and deliver impactful governance,” Fasua said.
