In a major step to address the shortage of teachers in public schools, Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the employment of 1,010 new secondary school teachers.

The approval follows the completion of a rigorous recruitment process conducted by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), which screened thousands of applicants last year. The list of successful candidates will be published online today and displayed at TESCOM headquarters and zonal offices from Tuesday.

The newly recruited teachers are expected to commence documentation immediately. The move is part of a broader initiative to improve education in the state, as the governor had earlier approved the recruitment of 1,000 primary school teachers, whose final selection process is nearing completion.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, concerned about staff shortages in rural schools, directed that recruitment be based on specific needs in understaffed areas. His administration has also approved ₦633 million for students’ West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees and the conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness.
