The National Secretariat of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on its 70th anniversary, describing the milestone as a remarkable achievement in the history of the union.

In a statement signed by NAWOJ’s National Chairperson, Comrade Aishatu Ibrahim, the association commended the leadership of NUJ, particularly its President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, and the first-ever female Deputy National President, Dr. Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde, for their dedication to the union’s growth and professional development of journalists.

“We have grown in leaps and bounds, and there is no doubt there will be greater and even more continuous growth, healthy solidarity, camaraderie, and professional development. This is exemplified by the candor and fatherly disposition of the team led by our capacity-driven President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya,” the statement read.

NAWOJ expressed pride in the legacy left by the union’s founding fathers and the progress made over the years. The association also reaffirmed its trust in the NUJ leadership, praying for a peaceful and productive tenure.

“It is our sincere prayer that the Almighty God, in His infinite mercy, will continue to show our revered union and its leadership the right direction towards attaining more glorious years of impactful achievements,” Ibrahim stated.

The statement further commended Yahaya for his proactive leadership, saying: “NAWOJ particularly expresses her deep appreciation to the number one journalist in Nigeria, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, for taking up a frontal role with members of his team in leading the union towards stardom and excellence.”

NAWOJ also extended prayers for the safety of journalists and their families as they continue their duties, as well as for the unity and progress of Nigeria.

“Congratulations, once more, to all of us!” the statement concluded.
