Chairman of Nuj, Taraba State Council, Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen (NIPR) during members during a press conference in Jalingo on Monday 14th of April, 2025.

Taraba state governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has congratulated the Taraba chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) on activities marking their annual press week. He has also accepted the Security Man of the Year award nomination by the body.

Emmanuel Bello, the Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications to Governor Kefas, announced this on Tuesday 15th of April 2025 in a statement issued to newsmen in Jalingo.

The statement said that the governor noted with delight the commitment of the journalists constantly sticking with professionalism.

“Taraba NUJ has not had a press week for 10 years now due to circumstances beyond their control. This week’s events are thus historical in their import.

“Consequently, Dr. Kefas stressed that the NUJ will continue to experience growth in its duties under his administration.

“He commended the leadership of the union for thoughtfully recognising government efforts in the areas of security.

“He further noted that journalists are a major partner in the work of moving Taraba forward.

“He said he considers free speech and constructive criticism as the main basis of any democratic experience.” The statement revealed.

The statement further explained, “Earlier, the NUJ leadership had described Dr Kefa’s strides in security matters as the best in the history of the state.

“The body noted that there was a unanimous agreement by the NUJ management when the award nomination was mentioned.

“The union has slated Thursday, 17th of April, 2025, for the governor’s award in its grand finale event at the C2C event centre, Jalingo.” The statement concluded.
