A three-storey residential building has collapsed at 2/4, Asesi Lane, off Sasi Lane by Adeniji Adele Road on Lagos Island, leaving several persons trapped under the rubble.
Emergency officials say four persons, two males and two females, have so far been rescued alive and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
In a situation report issued by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the cause of the collapse remains unknown as at the time of filing this report.
“Upon arrival at the incident scene, it was observed that a three-storey residential building has collapsed. The cause of the collapse is unknown,” said Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary, LASEMA.
He added that rescue operations had commenced immediately, with key emergency response teams deployed to the site.
“Search and rescue operations have commenced to rescue the trapped victims in the collapsed building,” Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed.
Responders currently at the scene include LASEMA, LASAMBUS, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
Cappa Base has also been contacted to deploy the Agency’s heavy-duty excavator to support ongoing rescue efforts.
As operations continue, concerned residents have gathered near the site anxiously awaiting news of loved ones feared to be inside the collapsed structure.
