Residents of the Maraban Rido and Juji internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Kaduna State have praised the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) for donating relief items, Bibles and back-to-school packs valued at ₦21.3 million.
The organisation said 1,305 households benefited from the outreach in Chikun Local Government Area, receiving food items and essential supplies, while 3,505 copies of the Bible were shared among residents who could read. Children in the camps also received school kits.
In a letter signed by Camp Commandant Adams Sule, residents said the gesture brought them “relief, comfort, and renewed hope” at a time many were struggling with the hardships of displacement.
“The spiritual and material support from BSN has strengthened our faith and met both our physical and emotional needs,” the letter said, adding that the community prayed for “God’s continued blessings” on the organisation.
Dajkachi Auta Ganyi, the traditional ruler of the host community, described the intervention as unparalleled. “This support is unprecedented and the first of its kind in our community,” he said during a courtesy visit.
Representing BSN, Laniru Dare of the Kaduna Area Office said the outreach was part of the group’s Macedonian Call project, aimed at reaching vulnerable and underserved communities.
“BSN’s mandate goes beyond Scripture distribution. We are committed to addressing the welfare needs of disadvantaged Nigerians,” Dare said, urging the displaced families to “remain hopeful despite their challenges.”
BSN said its Macedonian Call project, launched in 2018, has supported more than 50,000 people across IDP camps and informal settlements in states including Adamawa, Lagos, Benue, Edo and Kogi, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
