Ikorodu, Lagos – April 3, 2025 — The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed a fire outbreak early this morning at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu, involving one of LAGFERRY’s passenger boats, “Igbega Eko,” which was headed to Victoria Island.

According to a statement by LASWA, the incident occurred around 6:45 AM. Emergency responders, including LASWA’s rapid response team, LAGFERRY officials, and other boat operators, quickly mobilized to contain the situation.

“All passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the vessel,” the authority said. “However, four passengers sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. LASWA said it is working closely with LAGFERRY and relevant stakeholders to ensure a thorough assessment and to improve safety measures going forward.

Despite the incident, LASWA emphasized that ferry operations remain uninterrupted and that all safety protocols continue to be enforced across the waterways.

The authority urged commuters to stay calm and continue to adhere to safety guidelines while using water transportation.

Further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
