The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Ondo State gubernatorial election, marking a historic milestone in the state’s electoral history.

Governor Aiyedatiwa achieved an unprecedented victory, winning in all 18 local government areas of the state and securing 366,781 votes against his closest rival, Mr. Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes. The Governor’s tally is the highest ever recorded in a governorship election in Ondo State.

Addressing journalists at the Government House in Akure, an elated Aiyedatiwa described his victory as a triumph for democracy and a renewed mandate to serve the people of Ondo State.

“This is not just my victory; it is a victory for all the people of Ondo State,” he said. “I am deeply honoured by the overwhelming support and trust you have placed in me to continue leading our great state. This mandate is yours, and it reinforces my resolve to work tirelessly for the betterment of every citizen.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa pledged to run an inclusive government, emphasizing his commitment to fostering economic growth, improving the welfare of citizens, and ensuring lasting prosperity in the state.

“As your Governor, I promise to continue to run an inclusive and participatory government, where every citizen has a voice and an opportunity to contribute to our collective progress,” he assured.

The Governor also commended INEC for conducting a credible election and thanked security agencies for maintaining peace during the process.

“INEC has proven its commitment to democracy by conducting a free, fair, and credible election. I also extend my gratitude to the security agencies for their professionalism and dedication to ensuring a peaceful election,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC National Campaign Council, led by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for their support. He also extended a hand of fellowship to opposition parties, urging collaboration for the state’s progress.

Meanwhile, APC National Chairman Dr. Umar Ganduje highlighted the party’s ambitions to expand its dominance in the South-West, stating, “We are confident that APC will reclaim Osun and Oyo States. Ondo’s victory is a stepping stone to greater achievements.”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who chaired the APC National Campaign Council, commended Ondo residents for their peaceful conduct, describing the election as “a model for other states to emulate.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa dedicated his victory to God and the memory of former Governor, Late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, promising to honor his legacy by advancing the state’s development.
