Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies Announces First Annual International Conference on National Security

The Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies (ICSS) has officially announced its First Annual International Conference on National Security, in collaboration with Lagos State University (LASU). The conference, themed “Harmony In Security: Bridging the Gap between Theory and Practice,” is scheduled to take place from August 19 to 21, 2024, at LASU, Ojo, Lagos.

The Registrar-General of ICSS, Dr. Adekunle Aderemi, DFCSS, shared details of the highly anticipated event, which is set to bring together a diverse range of participants, including researchers, security personnel, policy makers, and other key stakeholders. “This conference is a significant milestone for ICSS, and we are honored to have such a distinguished lineup of speakers and participants,” Dr. Aderemi stated.

The conference will be chaired by General Olusegun Obasanjo, former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. In his words, Dr. Aderemi highlighted, “Having General Obasanjo as the Chairman of our maiden conference underscores the importance of the issues we are addressing.”

Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), Senator, representing Ogun West, will deliver the keynote address. Other notable attendees include Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, Vice Chancellor of LASU, who will serve as the Chief Host, and Dr. Ade John Abolurin (RTD), former Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, who will act as the Host.

The Lead Speaker, Professor Omololu Soyombo from the University of Lagos, will deliver a presentation on the main theme, aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical and practical aspects of national security. “This conference is not just about discussions, but about actionable solutions that can be implemented across various sectors,” said Professor Soyombo.

The conference will feature a variety of activities, including panel sessions, debates, and networking opportunities. Attendees will also have the chance to engage in innovative technology showcases and simulation exercises. “Our goal is to create a platform for meaningful exchange and collaboration among all participants,” added Dr. Aderemi.

Interested participants are encouraged to register early, with fees set at $200 for international participants, N30,000 for local participants, and N15,000 for students. Registration details, including payment instructions, are available through the official communication channels of ICSS.

The event will be accessible both in person and virtually, allowing for wider participation across various regions. Dr. Aderemi emphasized the conference’s broad appeal, stating, “We are committed to making this conference as inclusive and impactful as possible, ensuring that all voices are heard in the discourse on national security.”
