Joy in Neighbourhood As Dangote Group Distributes Bread in Lagos Streets

The Dangote Group took to the streets of the Alimosho area in Lagos State on Wednesday to connect with the local community by distributing loaves of bread to residents.

The gesture saw many residents of Shasha Road, Akowonjo in the Alimosho Local Government Area benefit from the distribution, during which a truckload of bread was exhausted.

One of the beneficiaries, who refused to disclose her name, said, “Dangote has suddenly remembered our community and decided to give back to the poor. May God bless him.”

Another beneficiary, who mentioned he was just passing through the area, said, “Dangote has done well, let other rich Nigerians emulate him.”

“I live at Orisunbare and I’m just passing and saw how they are sharing the bread in an orderly manner. We lined up and they gave us a loaf each. That bread is now about ₦1,500,” Monsurat Jimoh said.

The distribution also saw many commercial cyclists, popularly called Okada riders, park their motorcycles to join the line.

“My name is Usman, I am from Borno. I hear say Dangote is giving Okada people bread and I don collect my own. Hunger too much, make God bless am,” the excited rider said as he rode away.

Nigeria is facing an economic crisis, with food inflation hitting hard. It increased to 2.6 percent in June 2024 from 2.3 percent in May 2024.

Meanwhile, core inflation saw a slight monthly increase to 2.1 percent in June from 2.0 percent in May 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The NBS also reported that Nigeria’s inflation rate hit 34.19% amid rising food costs in June, reaching a new high for 2024 according to the latest data from the organization.
