Kgatlana confident South Africa will halt Nigeria’s Olympic chase

1 Mins read

Banyana Banyana forward Thembi Kgatlana remains undeterred despite their 1-0 loss to Nigeria in Friday’s Women’s Olympic Qualifying CAF first leg in Abuja.

Kgatlana said she’s confident they can outshine the Super Falcons in the return leg on Tuesday in Pretoria to secure qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Reflecting on the defeat, Kgatlana acknowledged Banyana Banyana’s sluggish start but remained optimistic, asserting that the African champions will reverse the situation in the upcoming fixture.

“In the rivalry between Nigeria and South Africa, we’re accustomed to such pressure,” Kgatlana remarked, highlighting the competitive nature of their encounters.

In 24 previous encounters (with seven played in South Africa), Nigeria have won 15, with five ending in draws and South Africa winning on four occasions.

The Super Falcons will hope to maintain their unbeaten run in South Africa on Tuesday.
