The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has announced that its 2025 Press Week will hold from Thursday, August 28, to Sunday, August 31, 2025, featuring a week of activities designed to promote ethical journalism and address pressing national issues.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chapel Chairman, Comrade Abraham Akpabio, and the Chairman of the 2025 Press Week Planning Committee, Comrade Joshua Uloko, the week-long celebration will officially flag off with a national discourse on the growing crisis of child abuse in Nigeria. The advocacy drive will be hosted at the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Ejigbo, Lagos, by its Founder, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, on Thursday, August 28, at 10 a.m.

“The Press Week is more than a tradition; it is an opportunity for us as journalists to use our platform to confront urgent societal challenges. This year, we are putting the spotlight on child abuse, a crisis that demands collective action,” Akpabio said.

Uloko added that the choice of theme, “Journalism and the Fight Against Misinformation in a Digital Age,” was deliberate, reflecting the media’s responsibility in an era overwhelmed by false information.

“We want to remind both journalists and the public that accurate, ethical reporting is vital to sustaining democracy and social trust,” he noted.

As part of the line-up, a Muslim Jumuah Prayer will hold at the Secretariat Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja, on Friday, August 29, by 2 p.m. On Saturday, August 30, a Health Talk by the Lagos State Health Management Agency will precede a lecture, an awards ceremony, and the unveiling of the Correspondents’ Chapel Magazine.

The Saturday event will take place at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Conference and Exhibition Center, Alausa, Ikeja, at 11 a.m. under the chairmanship of Otumba Olanrewaju Kazeem Lawal (Lanre Success). The event is expected to attract media practitioners, policymakers, entrepreneurs, clerics, cultural leaders, and stakeholders from both political and corporate sectors.

The week will conclude with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, August 31, at the United Evangelical Church (Qua Iboe), Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos, beginning at 9 a.m.

“We warmly invite our esteemed guests, friends of the Chapel, and journalists across the state to join us in all activities lined up to make the 2025 Press Week both memorable and impactful,” the statement read.
