The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, speaking at the engagement session with Lagos state Magistrates.

In a bid to strengthen the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has engaged 60 Magistrates across the state to enhance the judicial response to the menace.

Speaking at the engagement session in Ikeja, Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to tackling SGBV.

“The Lagos State Government, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to eradicating SGBV,” she stated. “The establishment of our Agency is a testament to this commitment, as we strive to provide a coordinated response to incidents of domestic and sexual violence.”

Vivour-Adeniyi emphasized the critical role of Magistrates in ensuring justice for survivors, stating that they serve as the first point of contact in the legal system.

“Your decisions, your sensitivity to the plight of survivors, and your commitment to upholding the rule of law are critical in shaping the outcomes of SGBV cases,” she told the Magistrates.

The engagement provided a platform to address challenges in prosecuting SGBV cases, exchange best practices, and explore innovative judicial approaches. She stressed that the justice system must not only punish offenders but also empower survivors and deter future cases.

“Lagos State must be a place where every individual can live free from fear and violence,” she concluded.
