The Lagos State Government is set to officially launch the Omi Eko Project on Friday, October 17, at the Five Cowries Terminal, Falomo, in what is being described as a major step toward revolutionising the state’s water transportation system.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), in a statement on Wednesday, said the event marks a pivotal milestone in the government’s commitment to sustainable development, smart city innovation, and modern mobility.

LASWA’s General Manager, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said the launch would draw top government officials, development partners, stakeholders, and the media to witness the unveiling of this transformative initiative.

“The launch will draw distinguished government officials, development partners, key stakeholders, community leaders, and the press to witness the debut of this transformative initiative,” Emmanuel said.

He noted that the event, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., will feature keynote speeches, a virtual overview of the Omi Eko Project, and a ceremonial unveiling by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to Emmanuel, the Omi Eko Project is poised to redefine Lagos’s waterways through the integration of cutting-edge technology, improved terminal infrastructure, and environmentally friendly practices.

“With the deployment of over 78 high-capacity electric ferries, digital ticketing systems, intelligent terminals, and safety innovations, the project will significantly reduce commute times and establish a reliable, modern transportation option for millions,” he said.

He added that the Five Cowries Terminal, a central hub for intermodal transport, was chosen as the launch site to symbolise Lagos’ vision of seamless integration between land and water mobility, as outlined in the Lagos Urban Mobility Plan.

“Members of the media are invited to cover this historic event. Press kits and interview opportunities will be readily available,” Emmanuel added.
