The Lagos State Government has trained more than 600 undergraduates in Software Quality Assurance (SQA) to prepare them for global opportunities in the technology industry, officials said on Monday.

The three-week, free bootcamp was initiated by the Office of the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Students’ Union Affairs and Tertiary Education, Kappo Olawale, and organised by Korrekt Tech in collaboration with the Ministry of Tertiary Education.

The training, held simultaneously at the College of Health Technology Yaba, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, and Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Otto-Ijanikin, exposed participants to software testing fundamentals, static techniques, test analysis, design, and hands-on training with real-world tools.

“This administration is committed to giving Lagos students not just a voice but a vision,” said Olawale at the programme’s grand finale. “We are encouraging them to connect leadership with technology-driven innovation and use their knowledge to launch digital literacy projects, tech hubs, or mentorship groups across campuses.”

He said the initiative aligned with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision to build a generation of skilled, creative, and future-ready students. “Software Quality Assurance is a vital 21st-century skill essential for equipping graduates to thrive in a technology-driven world,” Olawale added.

Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Sule Tolani, described the initiative as “timely and impactful,” noting that every profession now required ICT skills for productivity and innovation.

“The government is committed to improving graduate quality beyond classroom learning through exposure to practical and industry-relevant programmes like the SQA bootcamp,” Tolani said.

Korrekt Tech Founder, Rudwan Abdulazeez, commended the participants for their dedication, calling for investor support to sustain the initiative. “SQA experts identify and fix software issues before deployment to prevent costly errors,” he said, adding that poorly tested applications had caused financial losses for some banks.

Students who took part praised the training for its relevance. “We have learnt a lot and are ready to apply it,” said LASUSTECH Students’ Union President, David Oluwasegun. “We would appreciate more platforms and free WiFi access to support continuous learning and project implementation.”

Adegbite Daniel, of the LASUED Students Executive Council, described the programme as “a visionary commitment to youth empowerment,” while Dr. Ademola Aderogba, Dean of Students Affairs at LASUSTECH, said it “broadens students’ perspectives, enhances employability, and prepares them for real-world challenges.”

The Lagos State Government said the training was part of its broader effort to promote digital literacy and innovation across tertiary institutions in the state.
