Multiple Operations Unveil Organized Criminal Networks and Seize Illicit Substances

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has conducted successful operations resulting in the arrest of illicit drug smugglers and dock workers at a Lagos port terminal, seizing over 1,044.29kg of Cocaine and Colos. Additionally, vigilante commanders and others were apprehended for involvement in drug trafficking activities. Notably, intercepted shipments included Cocaine and Ecstasy concealed within footwear and headgear destined for the UK and Cyprus.

NDLEA operatives have initiated investigations into an organized criminal network responsible for recent drug importations from Durban, South Africa, to the Tincan seaport in Lagos. Arrests have been made among clearing and notify party members, dock workers, and terminal staff, all suspected of facilitating the removal of illicit substances from containers before joint examinations.

Under the directive of NDLEA’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), specialized units are diligently working to identify and apprehend those behind the large drug consignments. The latest seizure added 56.39kg of cocaine and 987.9kg of Colorado to the recovered substances. Three kingpins, believed to be based in South Africa, have been identified and are wanted for prosecution.

In Edo state, successful raids led to the arrest of individuals involved in drug trafficking, including a salesgirl and the owner of a drug joint, who also holds the position of a vigilante commander. Similar operations across Lagos, Ogun, Borno, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Anambra, and Kano resulted in the interception of various illicit drugs and the apprehension of multiple suspects.

Furthermore, NDLEA commands nationwide have intensified their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy lectures, with targeted outreach to schools and traditional leaders. The Chairman/CEO of NDLEA commended the concerted efforts of commands nationwide, highlighting their balanced approach in addressing both drug supply and demand reduction activities.

NDLEA’s recent operations underscore its commitment to combatting drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria. The agency remains steadfast in its efforts to dismantle criminal networks and protect communities from the scourge of illicit drugs.
