Nigeria’ Super Eagles have emerged victorious against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) where they will face Angola.

The Nigerian Super Eagles displayed dominance throughout the match, clinching a hard-fought 2-0 win over the Indomitable Lions. The victory dashed the AFCON aspirations of a resilient Cameroonian side, which had shown promise in their previous match against the Gambia.

The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Nigeria’s star striker, Osimhen, assisted Lookman for a close-range shot, giving Nigeria the lead. Despite a lack of clear-cut opportunities in the first half, Nigeria maintained defensive resilience, thwarting Cameroon’s attacking efforts.

The match was not without its share of drama, as VAR intervened to disallow a goal for Nigeria in the 10th minute due to a possible offside. Cameroon, desperate to equalize, brought on Vincent Aboubakar in the second half, but Nigeria’s solid defense held firm.

Despite Cameroon’s persistent attacking maneuvers, Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Nwabali, remained untroubled, denying any scoring opportunities for the Indomitable Lions. A late surge from Cameroon proved futile as Nigeria sealed the victory with a second goal, courtesy of Osimhen’s assist to Lookman.

With this win, Nigeria advances to the quarterfinals, poised to take on Angola in the next stage of the tournament.
