Report On The Fire Outbreak At Alayabiagba Market, Mobile Road, Boundary, Ajegunle Apapa

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency – LASEMA says its emergency response plan  was activated immediately when it received a distress call about a fire outbreak on Wednesday 5th June, 2024 at about 2:26am. 

The Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Agency Dr Olufemi Osanyintolu noted that the Agency received a distress call via the CRM regarding a fire outbreak at the Alayabiagba Market, Mobil Road, Boundary, Ajegunle Apapa on Wednesday 5th June, 2024 at about 2:26am. This prompted the immediate activation of the Agency’s Response Team to the scene of the incident.

Osanyintolu explained that upon the arrival of the Agency’s team at the incident scene, it was observed that ten shops in the market were engulfed by fire. They further gathered that the fire started from one of the shops immediately after public power was restored, the fire subsequently spread to other shops because most of the goods stored are curtains and clothing materials.

“Fortunately there was no loss of life nor injury recorded at the incident scene. However, the fire ravaged ten shops in the market and destroyed several goods stored in the affected shops. The fire was completely extinguished by the combined efforts of stakeholders and prevented from spreading to other shops and adjoining buildings”. He said. 

“The Agency’s team were involved in combating and extinguishing the fire to prevent it from spreading to other shops and adjoining buildings, coordination with all stakeholders at the incident scene to ensure a smooth operation and management of the incident scene to avert a secondary incident”.

Emergency responders present are The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency – LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, LASAMBUS and the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.
