A Mack truck carrying a 40-foot container overturned early on Sunday at Odonguyan First Gate in Ikorodu, Lagos, trapping the driver’s arm and blocking much of the roadway, emergency officials said.

The accident occurred at about 6:00 a.m. when the truck rolled backward and fell, leaving the container overturned and obstructing roughly 75% of the road, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Rescue teams used the agency’s crane, known as “Charlie,” working alongside responders from the Ministry of Transport and other stakeholders, to right-turn the container and free the driver.

“The victim was successfully rescued and taken to the hospital with his arm still attached for further medical treatment,” said LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.

Authorities diverted traffic around the scene as recovery operations continued using heavy-duty equipment. Further updates will be provided, LASEMA said.
