Two people were killed on Wednesday after two 40-foot container trucks collided at Cele Bus Stop inward Mile 2 in Lagos, Nigeria’s emergency management agency said.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said a moving truck rammed into a stationary truck from behind, with preliminary findings indicating the crash was caused by over-speeding.
The driver and motor boy of the moving truck died in the incident, LASEMA said, adding that their bodies remained trapped inside the wreckage as of the time of the report.
Emergency responders from the Eagle Response Team and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were on the scene, while heavy-duty recovery equipment was being mobilised to remove the trapped victims and clear the area.
Olufemi Oke-Osanyintola, the Permanemt Secretary of LASEMA in a statement said additional support teams, including Super Metro and the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), were expected to assist with recovery and evacuation.
Traffic control measures were also put in place to prevent further accidents, the agency said, noting that the operation was ongoing and more updates would follow.
