The United Kingdom Home Office International Operations has lauded the remarkable outcomes stemming from its collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on various drug law enforcement operations and joint projects. Mr. Richard Lloyd, the Director of Africa Region Operations at HOIO, conveyed this sentiment during a visit to the NDLEA’s national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. He commended the Agency’s impressive performance, expressing the UK government’s intention to commence the construction of a maritime headquarters for the NDLEA in June to bolster its anti-narcotic efforts.

Mr. Lloyd applauded the leadership of Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) for the Agency’s significant achievements in dismantling trans-border drug trafficking cartels. As a testament to their commitment to the fruitful partnership, Lloyd announced plans to formalize the collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NDLEA in the near future.

Expressing his gratitude for the support and cooperation received, Mr. Lloyd emphasized the exceptional professionalism and effectiveness demonstrated by the NDLEA teams in both Lagos and Abuja. He underscored Nigeria’s exemplary performance compared to other countries where HOIO operates, citing the country’s significant strides in disrupting organized crime and gangs.

Furthermore, Mr. Lloyd highlighted the recent refurbishment of two patrol boats for the NDLEA’s maritime operations by HOIO, promising continued logistical support in this regard. In response, Brig. Gen. Marwa expressed appreciation for the commendations, affirming the NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to its mandate of combating drug trafficking and abuse at the grassroots level across all 774 local governments in Nigeria. He acknowledged the challenges faced globally, including in the UK, and expressed gratitude for the continued support, particularly in training and capacity building initiatives.
