Authorities in Nigeria’s commercial hub of Lagos have reopened the Sango-Tedo road following the successful conclusion of recovery operations after a gas tanker explosion earlier on Saturday, the state emergency agency said.
The incident occurred at Ologuro Bus Stop in the Sango-Tedo area, where an articulated gas tanker and a tipper truck were involved in a collision that triggered a fire, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
In a statement, LASEMA said the burnt-out tanker had been removed from the roadway using heavy-duty equipment and transported to its operational base, clearing the path for normal traffic to resume. The tipper truck was also recovered and repositioned off the road to prevent obstruction.

The agency added that the tanker’s contents were completely consumed by the fire. Residual materials were collected by emergency responders and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further action.
Emergency services, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, worked alongside multiple agencies in a coordinated response to secure the area, manage the aftermath and restore traffic flow.
“All personnel and equipment deployed for the operation are returning to base in good condition,” LASEMA said, thanking residents for their cooperation during the exercise.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to public safety and urged motorists to remain cautious on the roads.
