President Bola Tinubu on Monday has taken decisive action, suspending the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, with immediate effect.

The move is in line with the President’s commitment to upholding integrity, transparency, and accountability in governance.

In an official statement released today by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into all financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The suspended Minister has been instructed to hand over responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the ministry.

President Tinubu emphasises the need for full cooperation from Edu as the investigation unfolds.

Additionally, a panel, led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture of social investment programs.

The objective is to reform relevant institutions and programs to eliminate institutional frailties, ensuring exclusive benefits for disadvantaged households and restoring public confidence.

These directives from President Tinubu are effective immediately, marking a significant development in the pursuit of accountability within the government.
