Lookman seeks World cup qualification with Nigeria

1 Mins read

After an impressive performance for Atalanta this season, Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman will switch focus to the all-important World Cup qualifiers against South Africa in Uyo.

Lookman, who made his debut for Nigeria in 2022 during their scoreless draw with Ghana in the third round of the African section of qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, will hope to replicate his Serie A form for the national team.

He was also part of the squad that ended Bayern Leverkusen’s 51-game unbeaten run in the Europa League final, where he scored a hat-trick to help Atalanta win their first European title in the club’s 116-year history.

Lookman has now been named in the squad released by Coach Finidi George ahead of the game against South Africa, following his exploits at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored three goals that helped Nigeria finish as runners-up, losing to Ivory Coast in the final.

The game is scheduled for 7th of June, at the Goodwill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
