A two-storey building under construction collapsed in Fadeyi, Lagos, early on Friday, prompting a search-and-rescue operation for construction workers who may be trapped beneath the rubble, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said.
The building collapsed on Akinola Street, off Ikorodu Road, with emergency responders working to determine the number of workers who may have been trapped, according to a preliminary incident report issued by the agency.
The cause of the collapse had not been established, the report said.
LASEMA said its response team had begun a coordinated search of the site, using an agency excavator to assist rescue efforts.
The operation involved several emergency and security agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA’s paramedics, the Lagos State Ambulance Service and the Nigeria Police Force’s Alakara Division.

Responders were also managing the scene and coordinating with other agencies to facilitate rescue operations, the report said.
The search-and-rescue operation was ongoing as of the time of the report.
The agency did not provide details on the number of people at the site when the building collapsed or confirm any casualties.
