1 Mins read

A dozen esteemed African global health leaders have collectively endorsed Dr. Ibrahima Socé Fall as their preferred candidate for the position of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Director for Africa. The endorsement was made in a joint editorial titled, “A visionary leader for Africa: Dr Ibrahima Socé Fall’s candidacy for the post of WHO Regional Director.”

Among the notable figures backing Dr. Fall are Professors Awa Marie Coll Seck and Souleymane Mboup, Doctors Obere Okereke and Ngozi Erondu, as well as Mr. Mabingué Ngom and Ms. Yacine Djibo. The editorial emphasizes the need for a visionary leader to guide the region through its pressing health challenges.

Dr. Fall, who has been nominated by the Republic of Senegal, has also received strong support from the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). “Dr. Fall’s experience and commitment to public health make him the ideal candidate to steer Africa’s health agenda forward,” said one of the signatories, underscoring the confidence placed in his leadership.

The decision on the next WHO Regional Director for Africa will be made during the seventy-fourth session of the Regional Committee, which is set to take place from August 26 to 30, 2024, in Brazzaville, Congo.
