MNJTF Condemns Misleading ISWAP/Boko Haram Propaganda, Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Stability

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has voiced strong concerns over the dissemination of deceptive content by ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists on the TikTok account of “Albanarwy 1446,” otherwise known as ibn Abubakar Albanarwy. According to MNJTF, these terrorist groups are using manipulated footage to falsely suggest a harmonious relationship between themselves and local communities in the Lake Chad region. The content portrays ISWAP/Boko Haram as protectors enforcing strict Sharia law, a claim the MNJTF denounces as a distortion of reality.

In the footage, local farmers, herders, and fishermen can be seen speaking in Hausa, projecting a fabricated narrative of peaceful coexistence. MNJTF officials describe this as an attempt to manipulate public perception by concealing the horrors inflicted by these groups, including forced displacement, brutal killings, kidnappings, and other violent acts that have left deep scars on innocent communities.

Contrary to these false portrayals, the MNJTF asserts that it is the primary protector of civilians in the Lake Chad Basin. Over the past year, the task force has facilitated the repatriation of more than 30,000 refugees and internally displaced persons, helping them return to communities like Kirawa, Banki, and Baga. The MNJTF has also contributed to regional stability by reopening essential trade routes, including the N’Djamena-Kousseri-Gamboru-Dikwa corridor, critical for the free movement of goods and people across Chad, Cameroon, and Nigeria.

Significant military strides have also been made. The recent Operation Lake Sanity 2 led to the neutralization of numerous Boko Haram combatants, the liberation of hostages, and the seizure of weapons. This operation, in cooperation with national forces from Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, and Chad, underscores MNJTF’s ongoing fight to counter terrorism in the region.

The MNJTF has urged social media platforms, particularly TikTok, to exercise diligence in monitoring and removing content that promotes radicalization and violence.
