The 2025 Jalingo Local Government Inter-Ward Unity and Peace Football Competition concluded on Wednesday, January 2nd, with Kachalla Sembe Football Club emerging victorious in a dramatic penalty shootout against Turaki ‘A’ Ward at Afolahan Square in Jalingo.
After a tense 90 minutes of goalless play, the match was decided in penalties, with Kachalla Sembe clinching a 5-4 victory. The tournament’s standout goalkeeper delivered a decisive save, sealing the win and igniting jubilant celebrations from fans.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Aminu Jauro Hassan, Chairman of the Jalingo Local Government Council and the tournament’s organizer, highlighted the competition’s role in fostering peace and unity.
“This competition is a testament to our shared commitment to fostering peace and harmony within Jalingo Council,” Dr. Jauro said. He also emphasized its role in curbing youth restiveness and identifying local talent. “We will maintain the tempo because we are going to form a Jalingo United Football Club, God willing,” he added.
Prominent figures such as the Galadiman Muri, Alhaji Tukur Abba Tukur, and the State Commissioner of Education, Hon. Dr. Augustina Godwin, lauded the initiative. They praised the event for nurturing unity and providing a positive outlet for youth.
Sani Sulaiman, State Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), commended the tournament’s impact. “This competition has shown how football can bring people together and create lasting bonds,” he said.
Participants urged others to emulate Dr Jauro’s efforts in using sports to drive community development. The event drew dignitaries from across the state, including lawmakers, government officials, and community leaders, making it a true celebration of unity.
