In a significant counter-terrorism breakthrough, troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), operating under Sector 3 in Monguno, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), intercepted a suspected terrorist courier at the entrance to Gubio Local Government Area on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mr. Murktar Alhaji Chari, was apprehended while transporting Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials to Damasak town in Mobbar Local Government Area. Items recovered included four empty 12kg cylinders, one 6kg cylinder, two carburettor gas canisters, two pressure regulators, and a hose.

During preliminary investigations, Chari confessed to being on a mission to deliver the materials for a planned attack on MNJTF troops in Damasak. Intelligence reports have linked the operation to a terrorist group intending to retaliate for recent losses, including the elimination of several fighters and the seizure of a significant weapons cache.

The interception has effectively disrupted the planned attack, delivering a significant blow to the operational capabilities of the group.

The suspect is currently in custody, cooperating with authorities to uncover further details about the group’s activities.
