The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has inaugurated a solar-powered borehole with a 10,000-litre tank capacity in Cross Kauwa, a community located about 130 kilometers from Maiduguri, Borno State. This vital project ensures reliable access to clean water for residents and symbolizes the MNJTF’s commitment to improving lives in the Lake Chad region.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, MNJTF Force Commander Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali praised the collaborative efforts that made the project possible. “This borehole represents our collective commitment to ensuring the fundamental right to clean water for the people of Cross Kauwa and beyond,” he said. He acknowledged the European Union’s financial support through the Defence Council International (DCI) framework, highlighting that additional initiatives such as healthcare facilities and school renovations are on the horizon.

Brigadier General MF Babayo, Acting Commander of Sector 3, emphasized the project’s transformative impact. “This facility will not only improve living standards but also reduce waterborne diseases, underscoring our dedication to sustainable community development in line with United Nations Sustainable Goal Number 6,” he remarked.
The newly installed borehole features advanced solar panels, microfilters, an automatic chrome dispenser, and a high-voltage pump to ensure efficient water delivery. A solar-powered streetlight also illuminates the area, enhancing safety at night.

General Ciaizzo Stephane (rtd), representing DCI, lauded the partnership behind the project. “This essential facility is a testament to our shared commitment to improving public health and quality of life for communities affected by Boko Haram terrorism,” he stated.
The Bulama of Cross Kauwa, Shehu Subairu, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the community. “This project demonstrates the MNJTF’s genuine concern for our well-being, and we pledge to take care of this facility,” he said.
