Nominations Open for 2025 African Energy Awards Ahead of Cape Town Ceremony

The African Energy Chamber has announced the opening of nominations for the 2025 African Energy Awards, set to take place during the African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies conference in Cape Town, South Africa, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

The awards ceremony, scheduled from 18:00 to 22:00, will celebrate leading figures and organizations across Africa’s energy landscape, spotlighting excellence in innovation, exploration, sustainability, and leadership. Recognized as the premier accolades within the international energy sector, the African Energy Awards serve as a benchmark for impactful contributions shaping the continent’s energy future.

In 2024, the awards honored industry trailblazers including Meg O’Neill, CEO of Woodside Energy, as Energy Person of the Year; the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas of Angola as Reformer and Change Maker of the Year; bp as ESG Leader of the Year; and Africa Global Logistics as Service Provider of the Year.

This year’s edition will feature eight award categories:

  • Mohamed S. Barkindo Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Energy Person of the Year
  • Exploration and Production Leader of the Year
  • Gas Monetization Award
  • Deal of the Year Award
  • Local Content Champion
  • Reformer of the Year
  • Service Provider of the Year

“These awards are more than a ceremony,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “They are a powerful platform to recognize and elevate the individuals and organizations that are boldly shaping the future of Africa’s energy industry.”

Nominations are open to energy professionals and organizations across the public and private sectors, with self-nominations also permitted. Entrants must submit their applications, including a completed nomination form and relevant supporting materials, by June 30, 2025.

The event offers more than recognition—it provides visibility, networking opportunities, and a platform to connect with investors, executives, and policymakers influencing Africa’s energy journey.
