Abuja Faces Blackout After Sabotage on Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line

1 Mins read

Parts of Abuja experienced a sudden power outage on Sunday as vandals targeted the Shiroro-Katampe 330kV transmission line, marking the fifth such incident in February and March, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The sabotage, occurring at 9 am, rendered initial restoration efforts futile, stated TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah. Despite dispatching linesmen to pinpoint the fault, vigilante teams alerted TCN of vandalism along the transmission line, with conductors stolen from Towers 244 to 245.

TCN is mobilizing for conductor replacement, while ensuring the continued operation of the unaffected line in collaboration with the Gwagwalada 330kV line. The company emphasizes the importance of enhancing security and minimizing disruptions to power supply.

TCN urges collaboration from security agencies and communities to combat vandalism, underscoring the national importance of protecting electricity infrastructure.
